Andrew has just completed a Masters in Performance after graduating with a first class BMus Honours and a Post Graduate Diploma from the RSAMD where he studied with Allan Neave and Phillip Thorne. Andrew is a recipient of the Musicians benevolent fund, the Charles and Barbara Tyre Trust and the Robertson Scholarship Trust.
He has been a finalist in international competitions and has won both the Orphee and Chanterelle guitar prizes plus the Dundee Guitar Festival Scholarship and was runner up in the Ivor Mairants Guitar Award, London. Recently he won the Historical E.R.C.U. Trophy in the final of the Edinburgh Festival where he was also a concerto finalist.
At the age of eighteen he toured with Scottish Ballets production of Carmen and has recently performed Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, The Rein Philharmonic Orchestra (Germany), the Friends of the Edinburgh Festival Orchestra and has just returned from a European tour of Belgium, Switzerland and Italy playing the concerto with the European Vacations Chamber Orchestra.
He has performed at the Dundee Guitar Festival, the Irish Guitar Festival (Derry) and the Jacinto & Guerrero Foundation, Madrid. He also performed with the Hebrides Ensemble in May 2005 for the Premier of Kay Mackenzie’s "The Bayous of Louisiana" as part of the “Academy Now” Series at The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
He has recently performed at the “Lewes Guitar Festival” and the “Ullapool Guitar Festival” with great success and is making another appearance at this years Dundee Guitar Festival where he will be teaching and performing with the flamenco guitarist Ricardo Garcia.
Andrew has performed with Allan Neave and with Carlos Bonnel and has premiered works by Steve Cooney, Mike Nielson, Christopher Norby and Elvis Suarez. Christopher Norby, the young talented Irish composer from Derry is currently in the process of writing a Guitar Concerto for Andrew.
Andrew is now regularly performing with the flautist Yvonne Paterson in their flute and guitar duo, Duende! He has also performed with the singer Anna Mateo from Barcelona and is working with the Scottish Counter Tenor Reno Troilus.
In May 2006 Andrew performed Rodrigo’s 3rd guitar concerto “Concierto para un Fiesta” with the RSNO and the “Concierto para un Gentilhombre”.
As a keen exponent of Flamenco Guitar Andrew regularly performs with Glasgow’s Flamenco group "Deseo" and recently accompanied the International Superstar Flamenco Dancer, Felipe de Algeciras (Choreographer of Alma Flamenca). He works closely with the dancers Tote Conte, Saliha Haouachi and Isabel Munoz and has also worked with the Flamenco Guitarists Ricardo Garcia and Ramon Ruiz.
Andrew enjoys composing for the guitar and has also arranged many Spanish orchestral works for the instrument. His Music has been performed by the Scottish Guitar Duo and recently by Allan Neave at “Celtic Connections” (The Island Tapes) Scotland’s leading folk music festival. Andrew has also performed his own music live on Radio Ulster and also for Spanish and British Television.
